Greetings! My name is Dick Klobuchar. Welcome to my home page.
Although I completed a long career in Civil Engineering in Transportation in Minnesota, I have had many exciting
interests in my life besides transportation.
My principle interest for decades had been World War II. After years of research, especially on the Pacific
theater of combat, I felt compelled to pass on to others some of the fascinating incidents I uncovered.
The result is my first book, PEARL HARBOR: Awakening a Sleeping Giant.
Bringing these stories to light was my goal in writing a different kind of book about Pearl Harbor. If you
are not a World War II buff, these stories will still excite you and give you an appreciation of the real
battle there.
My second book, The USS Ward: An Operational History of the Ship That Fired the First American Shot of
World War II, published in March of 2006, tells the fascinating history of one of World War II's famous ships, the USS Ward, which is
best known for its firing of the first shot of America's involvement in World War II by sinking a Japanese
midget submarine outside of Pearl Harbor an hour before the Japanese attack. My interest in telling this
story stems from the fact that most crew members serving aboard her during the Pearl Harbor era of World War II
were from Minnesota, my home state. The book tells a story that has been waiting to be told.
I invite you to read about me and about my books and
hope you will be interested in reading these exciting stories. If you want to obtain a book, you can find
